TSUNAMI

Image
As Abbott points out in 1996, tsunami is a Japanese word meaning "big port wave." When the low-lying waves at sea reach the harbor, they rise above the narrow shape of the harbor. This is what the Japanese call a tsunami. *Rojas and Fissey describe the tsunami as a tidal wave. *According to Telford, a tsunami is a species that is rarely seen in the low seas. Factors influencing the occurrence of a tsunami. 1. Earthquakes on the ocean floor 2.Landslides (eg 1958 tsunami waves caused by 3.landslides in the Lithia Mountains of Alaska) 4.Volcanic eruption 5.Meteor showers  Often there are no early warning signs of a tsunami. But tsunamis are usually caused by a water-related earthquake. A tsunami can occur if shallow water, high intensity, depth of water and sufficient water mass are complete. A magnitude 4.2 earthquake can cause a tsunami. The December 26, 2004 earthquake was triggered by a Burmese landslide over the Indus. During this slip, the ground rises about 30 meters. The...

Folk poetry and village life

Image
Sinhala folk poetry has been handed down from generation to generation.  Sinhala folk poetry shows the social and religious level of the villagers' occupation. Various genres of folk poetry such as Pal Kavi Paru Kavi Nelum Kavi Pathal Kavi Olinda Keliya Darunelavili are still heard from time to time. We have seen a number of books written among the Janakavi. Among them are several important books of Yasodarawatha, Wessanthara and Thun Sarana. Sinhala folk poetry contained the thoughts and wishes of the Sri Lankan villagers. Its simplicity and authenticity were all evident. The villagers used to express their loneliness, loneliness, sadness and happiness in poetry .Agriculture was the main source of income for the villagers. There is an opinion that folklore was born with agriculture. The villagers were accustomed to expressing their tragic experiences in poetry. They also sang poems when they were happy. In that sense, there was a reciprocal relationsh...

SIGIRIYA.. Sigiriya can be considered as a World Heritage Site that belongs not only to the Sri Lankan people but to the whole world. Sigiriya is one of the major archeological sites in Asia. King Kasyapa I made Sigiriya his kingdom from 477 to 495 AD, Sigiriya is an ancient Aryan settlement which is evident from the short Brahmi inscriptions and other archeological finds found in the Sigiriya area. Professor Senarath Paranavithana is the archaeologist who has researched and explored Sigiriya for decades. He said that Sigiriya was not a fort but a palace built by King Kasyapa.  Sigiriya is a huge rock about 200 meters high. The royal palace is located on top of this rock. Stone and brick have been added to this design. Large stone stairs can be seen here and the stairs end at a footpath. It is protected by a finely polished wall called the Mirror Wall. When you pass the mirror wall, you will come across huge lion's feet. The staircase, which ...

SINHARAJAYA 🍃🌱... 🍃 Sinharaja Forest belongs to the group of tropical rainforests. In the past the Sinharaja forest was spread over a large area. But today that situation has changed and it is stated that Sinharaja now exists in an area of 8664 hectares. That is, in an area of about 30 square miles. History tells us a lot about the Sinharaja forest. The fourteenth-century traveler Iban Battuta mentions that he went to Sri Pada through the Sinharaja forest. Also, James Emerson, who wrote a valuable book on Sri Lanka, has given information about the Sinharaja site. But due to the ongoing deforestation, the Sinharaja forest has become very small.Sinharaja belongs to the Central Highlands. Several rivers start from the streams of Sinharaja. The Gin River is formed by a canal that starts in the south of the forest. Sinharaja Forest can be valued as a habitat for endemic animals and small creatures of Sri Lanka. There are three hundred and eighty four species of birds i...
