Our country is a World Heritage Site..

SIGIRIYA..

Sigiriya can be considered as a World Heritage Site that belongs not only to the Sri Lankan people but to the whole world. Sigiriya is one of the major archeological sites in Asia.

King Kasyapa I made Sigiriya his kingdom from 477 to 495 AD, Sigiriya is an ancient Aryan settlement which is evident from the short Brahmi inscriptions and other archeological finds found in the Sigiriya area. Professor Senarath Paranavithana is the archaeologist who has researched and explored Sigiriya for decades. He said that Sigiriya was not a fort but a palace built by King Kasyapa.

Sigiriya is a huge rock about 200 meters high. The royal palace is located on top of this rock. Stone and brick have been added to this design. Large stone stairs can be seen here and the stairs end at a footpath. It is protected by a finely polished wall called the Mirror Wall. When you pass the mirror wall, you will come across huge lion's feet. The staircase, which begins after the lion's feet, ends at a steep slope. The huge palace is located on top of the Sigiriya rock. The rock gardens that remain here are one of the oldest surviving scenic gardens in Asia. Also, the water park here is a wonderful creation.

In fact, Sigiriya has become a world famous place because of its murals. Although the subject matter of these murals is Apsaras or Divyanganas, there are differing opinions among scholars about these Apsaras. Sigiriya paintings are considered to be the oldest surviving paintings in Sri Lanka.

Sigiriya Kurutu Geetha is a very valuable collection of creations associated with Sigiriya. These songs are written on the Sigiriya Mirror Wall and these Sigiriya songs were written by people who came from different parts of the country to visit Sigiriya. Senarath Paranavithana has read and interpreted nearly seven hundred of these Sigiriya Kuruthu songs.

All of the above indicate the excellence of Sigiriya. It should be mentioned that Sigiriya reveals many valuable facts about the ancient indigenous technology of Sri Lanka. Needless to say, Sigiriya was truly a masterpiece that amazed the world. Through Sigiriya, the wonders of Hela who lived in the past are told to the whole world.

THANK YOU💕
