Peradeniya Botanic Gardens


 Peradeniya  Flower Garden is located in a beautiful environment that is sure to appeal to both locals and foreigners alike. botanical garden is located on a main road and is very important. Peradeniya is located at a distance of 68 miles from Colombo and is easily accessible from Colombo. 

Peradeniya Botanic Gardens is a place of great historical significance. It is believed that this was the residence of several Kandyan kings. The scenic beauty of the environment and surroundings may have influenced the construction of this royal garden in the design of the royal palaces of the kings. Evidence of a temple and a dagoba can be found in this area. Ruins of a temple can still be seen in the park. 

This botanical garden was established during the British rule in 1810 on the instructions of a royal commission. The British established the Botanic Gardens as a research center for economic crop cultivation in Sri Lanka. Accordingly, experiments were first carried out on the cultivation of nutmeg cloves. Peradeniya Botanic Gardens covers about 150 acres of land. Many garden sections can be seen in the Peradeniya Botanic Gardens. It is said that there are about 4,000 species of trees in this park.

The Botanic Garden is a very useful place for botanists as well as those who study botany. It has all the information about the trees in it.
